As we come to the end of 2023, we’d like to thank the people and businesses in the communities of Birnam, Dunkeld, Inver and Little Dunkeld, for your patience and support as continue our work to divert and upgrade a section of our gas network, which currently runs close to the River Tay.
You’ll be aware our critical project involves the relocation of a high-pressure gas pipeline, to ensure a safe and reliable future gas supply to thousands of homes in Dunkeld, Logierait, Birnam, Aberfeldy and Pitlochry.
Phase one – Perth Road
Phase one of our project on Perth Road began in July 2023. We’re pleased to say this work has progressed well and will be completed before Christmas.
Phase two – A9
Work to lay our new pipeline in the A9 just north of Dunkeld began at the end of October 2023. We appreciate motorists experienced significant delays at times and once again we’d like to offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.
After listening to feedback, we’ve added additional warning messages in the road, and we’re manually controlling our temporary traffic lights 24/7. A breakdown recovery vehicle is also present on site, which is there to remove any broken-down vehicles as quickly as possible.
In addition, we continue to explore all possible options to help speed up our work and reduce any travel disruption.

A9 Festive Break
To ensure minimal disruption during the festive period, our work on the A9 will be temporarily paused during the week commencing 18 December and both lanes will be fully re-opened. Our project will then resume during the first week in January 2024 and continue until completion at the end of February.
Phase three – B898
Our work on the B898 will begin after work is completed on the A9. Details on how we’ll carry out this section of our project will be available on the SGN website in the New Year. We’ll also be writing to all the householders and businesses in the area to update everyone on our plans in advance.
