Stamp, Coins and Watch collection for The Bible Society
After a long delay trying to deliver the stamps, coins and watches to the Edinburgh office, at last I was successful.
It had been 12 months since the last delivery of our goods but illness, the problems with the Forth Road bridge and the winter weather kept putting the date off.
However, the things are now delivered and the Society are very pleased indeed. Two suitcases and a carrier bag were a formidable amount and by that stage a train journey was not possible.
The gentleman in charge assured me that every item would be sold to collectors or to auction houses on our behalf. For every £4 received a Bible, a Children’s Bible, New Testament or Gospel can be given to a person in need. Translators have worked long and hard so that the bibles can be printed in specific languages and in some cases, the printing can be set up here and then the actual print run happens in the country requesting the bible. This is cheaper in transport terms and provides another work avenue for some of the population. Did you consider also that a mechanic may be trained to maintain the printing machinery, whether mechanical or by computer?
The Parish are thanked very much for our contributions. The hunger for God/s word continues to grow in many countries.
Please continue to support via the can in the Cathedral or box in Little Dunkeld Church or give by hand to Brenda. Phone 01738 710094 to arrange collection.
