Why do Churches Fund Raise?
Before a congregation can reach out and help others financially, either within its own country or within missions abroad, its own house must be in order with a substantial income in place.
Globally, churches are holding cake sales, having sponsored walks, holding garage sales and plate dinners, and using their initiative in so many ways in order to help others through their mission work.
In a very small way, over the last year or so in Dunkeld and Birnam, we have helped the sick, homeless, depressed and destitute, but we are capable of doing so much more.
St Mary’s, Birnam, has limped along over the last few years without a leader. Finally, through the wonderful donations from the 3 Churches Charity Shop helping to pay our heating, insurance and day to day bills, it was possible to advertise for a Rector. This, in turn, led to the necessary refurbishment of the Rectory.
What a valuable investment we have made. We feel incredibly grateful to our new Rector, the Revd Shona Boardman, for the care she is giving to our sick and elderly, for the way young mums and children are being welcomed into the church and for the effective way she is carrying on church business.
‘FUN’ Raising at St Mary’s
For the next couple of years St Mary’s will be holding a range of events which we hope will prove useful and FUN for the community.
There are 14 local ladies who sew, knit and probably do cross stitch, but they have never made a patchwork quilt before. All are excited about learning this new craft and having fun within the group. Very soon they will begin work on a large patchwork quilt where the quilting will all be done by hand, making it very special and a beautiful piece of work. When completed, the quilt will be raffled.
A Silent Auction will be held in late November (date tbc) to help you with Christmas gift ideas.
Big PLANT/SHRUB SALE
In late April 2016 we will be holding a plant/shrub sale with annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs. If you are separating plants now, or in the Autumn, it would be wonderful if you could pot them and save them for the St Mary’s sale. If you don’t have room to store them, please call me, Dianne Simpson 01738 710083 or The Rector: 01350 727432.
