Dunkeld and Birnam in Bloom
As we are now approaching Spring, we are starting our planning for the coming year. The snowdrops are beginning to flower in Torwood Park, where they seem to appear before anywhere else. Last year the bed in Torwood Park was becoming more established and had lots of colour right through the Summer. Most of the planting there has been made possible through donations of plants which were not needed by members of the community, and odds and ends, from splitting our own plants in other parts of the village, consequently keeping costs to a minimum. We hope this coming year to improve the other bed in the park, near the entrance, as it has become very bare over many years. We intend to remove old overgrown shrubs and replace them with more colourful planting and hopefully, funds permitting, lay new gravel.
The adjoining Old Hostel Walk, has also been planted with more daffodils, and some aconites, and fritillary. On a dry afternoon in Autumn, some of the children from the Royal School helped us to plant lots of different ferns, which were very kindly donated by Dobbies Garden Centre. Their enthusiasm was commendable and we are very much looking forward to seeing the results when the Spring hopefully arrives!
Any donations are very welcome, as we have to somehow raise funds to cover the cost of all our bulbs, compost, Summer planting and tools etc. As ever, we greatly appreciate any help, even for an hour or two now and again. You know what they say - "many hands make light work"!
