Hipshire Community Network TrueCall Scheme
The Health & Wellbeing Sub Group has successful obtained Community Support funding to purchase a number of trueCall units which enable people to block out nuisance and cold calls.
Workers in the Highland Perthshire area have highlighted that a number of older people are reporting distress and disruption caused by nuisance and cold calls. This funding will enable us to run a pilot programme across the area. A limited number of units will be provided and installedfree of charge to older people across the area.
trueCall Call Blocker is like having a home receptionist who lets calls from your friends and family straight through, blocks unwelcome callers, and asks unrecognised callers to identify themselves before it puts them through. This gives you peace and quiet at home. The units plug in between the phone and the wall socket and when installed, quickly learns who you like to speak to and who you don’t. The system lets you decide how you want it to handle your calls, and the trueCall Call Blocker does the rest.
For the system to work people need to have caller id activated in their phone line, this is easily arranged with service providers but may have a charge.
Franny McGrath, chair of the network says “We are delighted to have the opportunity to run this project to support people to feel safer within their own homes, as well as the distress caused to people receiving call there have also been a number of cases of vulnerable people being scammed for money. Hopefully this project will help to address this and also raise awareness of these issues in the area”.
