Exciting Plans for Dunkeld Guide Hall
Tucked away behind the school the Guide Hall in Dunkeld has been home to the Girlguiding movement since the 1930s. The photo shows two guides dressed up for the Girlguiding Centenary in 2010. Over the decades it has been a huge asset to Guides and Brownies, and for the last few years Playgroup has also operated out of the Hall.
However just like the Guide Uniform has changed over the years, the Guide Hall needs to move with the times.
Modern buildings need to be accessible to all and have all the facilities expected in the 21st Century. So, the volunteers in the Friends of Guiding group have been working on a project to build an extension to the rear of the Guide Hall. The extension will have new toilets and a disabled toilet with shower, a new larger kitchen and two big store rooms for the Guides and Playgroup equipment.
A new entrance foyer will form a new entrance at the side of the hall and a suite of audio visual equipment will bring the hall bang up to date.
All this needs money – a total of £175,000! The good news is that Friends of Guiding have been successful in securing grant support of £160,000, leaving just £15,000 left to find.
To help fill the funding gap Friends of Guiding are setting up a JustGiving page to allow people who would like to support our vision for a Guide Hall for the 21st Century to contribute by donating online. The page should be ready shortly - just try searching Just giving Dunkeld Girlguiding.
Or if you prefer cheques can be sent to Trix Stephen, District Commissioner, Tayview House, Oak Road, Birnam – made payable to Dunkeld + Birnam Girl Guides District.
We thank you in advance for your support and hope to be able to start on the project next spring. Watch this space!
