Gien a Haund (Giving a hand) to older people
The befriending work continues. We have 2 links in place with more requests in the pipeline. Often it's just someone to chat to that people need or someone to walk with them. Every person and their needs are different.
The results of our wider survey of need are also coming in now and they make for interesting reading.
It's not simply cleaning and gardening that people want help with. It's support in finding and selecting the right person. It's not just transport to hospital to receive treatment. It's transport to visit a family member or close friend. It's help in setting up a new computer or in switching energy suppliers. And as well as little DIY jobs, it's transport for urgently needed same day prescriptions. Oh and of course.. it's the challenge of getting onto or off the train at Dunkeld and Birnam without a forklift truck.
So - we'll be liaising with other groups about transport and looking at how we can help older people gain IT skills. But right now, with winter approaching, we need volunteers to visit, chat or problem solve with our older people. You can contact me on :
