St. Anne’s, Dowally
The congregation has taken the decision to stop services at Dowally Kirk. It was not an easy decision to make but necessary for a number of reasons.
Attendances have not been big there for a long time but recently have been so small that it was felt it was no longer sensible to continue. Repairs and improvements to the building could never be justified on the basis of numbers and the fact that it is only four miles from Dunkeld.
Added to that, the proposed new A9 will change the situation. Access will be difficult and the plans show the road will take in the car park, right up to the graveyard wall. For these and other reasons it was decided the time was right to close it and try to sell the building.
A meeting was held after a service at Dowally in April when folk who attend discussed what to do. Reluctantly, it was unanimously agreed that closure was the best option. Based on that discussion, the Kirk Session took the formal decision to cease worship there and the congregation as a whole voted in favour of the proposals on June 18th. The Presbytery of Dunkeld and Meigle concurred on June 20th. At its next meeting, the Kirk Session will make plans for the closing service some time later in the year.
