Scottish Deli & Royal School of Dunkeld “Super-Soup Competition” 2018

supersoupThe P7 Pupils at Royal School of Dunkeld are cooking up a storm in the “Scottish Deli & RSD Super-Soup Comp”!
Miss Pringle, the P7 Teacher, was delighted to learn that The Scottish Deli wanted to launch a soup competition with the school. “It’s an excellent opportunity for the P7 Class to learn more about producing easy to make, fresh and healthy soups which they can make at home, and it’s great fun too!”
Simon Yearsley, from The Scottish Deli, was keen to work with the school and help share his passion for simple, wholesome, locally sourced and cost-effective food. “We gave the P7s a clear brief that the soups had to have fun, descriptive names; be very tasty; have simple, seasonal ingredients, but also a wee creative twist; and importantly, fit within a strict cost range.”
The first stage of the competition was for the P7s to split into six teams, plan and create their soups and make up a batch for the initial tasting. Simon, and Assistant Manager, Frankie Berks, went down to the school and judged the initial tasting. “It was great fun to see the P7s really getting into the swing of things” said Frankie, “and picking two soups out of the six was a tough choice, as all six definitely were excellent super-soups”. The two shortlisted soups were “Snug As A Bug Sweet Potato (with a kick)”, and “Lovely Lovely Lentil Soup”.
These two soups will be made up into bigger batches in The Deli and will go on sale from Friday 2nd to Thursday 8th March. The soup which gets the best customer feedback will be crowned the “Scottish Deli & RSD Super-Soup Winter 2018 Winner”. Simon ended by saying “We’ll announce the winners on Friday 9th March, which should be a really special event. We’re also donating 20% of all our Super Soup Comp sales to RSD, and we hope this Soup Comp will become a regular feature in the school, and we’re already thinking about a Spring Soup, Summer Soup and Autumn Soups”.
