Notes from a Councillor
Doesn’t time fly? It was a year ago that I was out walking the pavements of Strathtay and knocking doors in search of support for my election campaign! What a year it has been.
Setting the Council budget this year was challenging to say the least but despite the scare stories in the local press we managed to keep the services that matter to people whilst making the necessary savings and keeping the rise in Council tax in line with most other Councils in Scotland at 3%. Our budget ensured that amongst other things, all of the Perth and Kinross recycling facilities including Bankfoot, Aberfeldy and Inveralmond remained open.
There has been some confusion regarding the Brown garden waste bins. This was a proposal put forward last year. The collection of Garden waste is not a statutory requirement but it as decided to offer the facility for a nominal fee. The £25 annual charge is optional and equates to approximately 50 pence per week. If you choose not to pay for the brown bin, your food waste will still be collected. You are still able to take your own garden waste to any of the recycling facilities free of charge but I would suggest that the garden waste charge is better value than using your own vehicle each week.
The awarding of the contract for the A9 duelling from Luncarty to Birnam is due in early spring with the works to start soon after. Keep an eye out in the local press for further details.
In the meantime, if you have any worries or concerns that you would like to discuss, then please do not hesitate to contact me.
