Notes from a Councillor
Firstly, I would like to thank you all very much for putting your faith in me and electing me as one of your three local Councillors. I am truly honoured and deeply humbled by your kindness. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can over the coming months.
The Strathtay ward covers a very large area with a diverse range of needs and requirements, our job is to try and strike the right balance to make sure that those of you living in remote rural areas get the same level of understanding and service as those living in the more densely populated areas. We will fight to ensure that the Council doesn’t get fixated on making Perth a great city whilst neglecting the smaller communities.
Local Government is not as easy and straightforward as it seems.
I can’t promise to make changes overnight but I can promise to listen to your concerns and make sure that your voice is heard in the decision making process. I am taking an active interest in local Community Councils and attend all of their meetings. I would also encourage you to go along to their meetings and help them to make a difference in your area.
I have been allocated positions on the following committees:
Development Management (Planning), Licensing Committee (Vice Convenor), Licensing Board and Audit. I have decided that I will not hold dedicated surgeries for people to attend. I feel that it is far more important to be accessible and more approachable. My contact details are widely available and I would encourage you to contact me directly if there is anything that you wish to discuss. I am regularly out walking in the area with my partner and our three French Bulldogs, if you see us out and about then please stop us and say hello.
