A new guidebook describing the rock climbs on Craig a Barns, overlooking Dunkeld, has just been published (Highland Outcrops South by the Scottish Mountaineering Club). Many people probably don’t realize how popular rock climbing is around here. Up to about 20 or 30 climbers might be enjoying the challenges of Polney Crag and Cave Crag on any dry day or summer evening. The first climbs were pioneered in the late 50’s and new routes and variations are still being discovered. The new guidebook lists 130 different routes on these crags and has some stunning photos of climbers in action, including the front cover – a shot of ‘High Performance’ E3 on Cave Crag.
The book can be bought at Tiso’s at Inveralmond, Perth.
