A festival taking place 17th – 19th June has been held to celebrate the reopening of Caputh Village Hall.
Molly Arbuthnott, Secretary of the Caputh Hall Committee says, ‘When we started this project in 2016 the hall was deemed derelict and several people said it was a lost cause. What we are seeing now is a renewed appreciation of our community and people donating their time and effort to save our hall.’
The Caputh Hall Committee has raised over £120,000 from a mixture of trusts and foundations and a successful crowdfunding campaign run in 2021.
All of the internal restructuring and decorating of the hall is complete with the hall curtains, including side curtains and a back curtain for dramatic effect.
Caputh Hall was built in 1909 and is a listed arts and crafts building. In recent years the building has been heated by a electric heaters with the Rural huddling around a gas fire in the winter.
One funder was the Climate Challenge Fund which enabled the committee to secondary glaze and insulate the hall in a bid to increase energy efficiency.
